WiFi & Internet Connectivity at Sunset Camp
At Sunset Camp Masai Mara, we offer complimentary WiFi internet access to help you share special moments with loved ones back home. However, we encourage you to embrace the rare opportunity to disconnect and fully immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the African wilderness.
🦁 Important Connectivity Note
Please understand: We are located in a remote wilderness area. While we provide the best available satellite internet, connectivity in the Masai Mara can be intermittent, slower than urban standards, and occasionally affected by weather conditions. This is the reality of any authentic bush camp.
Internet Access Details
📍 Coverage Areas
Reliable WiFi signal is available in:
- The Main Lounge & Restaurant Area (strongest signal)
- The Bar & Campfire Zone
- Not in Individual Tents: To preserve the authentic safari experience and encourage relaxation, WiFi does not extend to private tents.
📊 Speed & Capabilities
Our satellite connection is suitable for:
- Checking and sending emails
- Browsing websites and social media
- Messaging via WhatsApp, iMessage, etc.
- Sharing select photos (small batches)
Not suitable for: Video calls, streaming (Netflix/YouTube), large file uploads/downloads, or online gaming.
🕒 Best Times to Connect
For the most reliable connection:
- Early Morning: 6:00 AM – 8:00 AM
- Mid-Day: 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM (when guests are often on siesta)
- Late Evening: After 8:00 PM
Network usage is typically highest during peak “connection times” right after game drives.
Mobile Network Coverage
For those needing more consistent connectivity:
- Safaricom Network: We get intermittent 2G/3G signal in certain elevated spots around camp.
- Airtel & Other Providers: Coverage is very limited to non-existent.
- Recommendation: If essential, purchase a local Safaricom SIM card at Nairobi airport. Data bundles are affordable.
Our Connectivity Philosophy
We deliberately limit WiFi in tents because Sunset Camp offers something increasingly rare: a true digital detox. The Masai Mara is one of the last great wildernesses where you can:
- Listen to the dawn chorus of birds instead of notification pings
- Watch a lion pride interact without a screen between you
- Have uninterrupted conversations under star-filled skies
- Be fully present for the magnificent wildlife spectacles
Many guests tell us their favorite part of the safari was the “unexpected freedom from constant connectivity.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Is WiFi really free?
Yes, absolutely. There are no hidden charges or time limits for our WiFi service.
Can I make video calls to my family?
Unfortunately, the bandwidth is insufficient for reliable video calls. We recommend arranging specific “check-in times” via text message instead.
What if I have a work emergency?
In genuine emergencies, please speak to camp management. We have contingency solutions for critical situations.
Do you have a business center or computer access?
No, we encourage guests to bring their own devices if needed. Our focus is on providing an authentic wilderness experience.
